Excelsior Springs, Mo., boasts a unique heritage thanks to the discovery of several varieties of mineral water springs that historically attracted flocks of tourists and health-seekers from around the world. The Hall of Waters & Cultural Museum was built in the 1930s to make all of the mineral waters available at fountains. The Art Deco building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and still serves a vibrant role in the life of our community. We celebrate this heritage every year during Waterfest, a city-wide festival.
Part of the fun during the annual Waterfest celebration in Excelsior Springs, MO, is the Waterfest 5K on Saturday, June 25, 2016, a run and walk to benefit the Excelsior Springs Educational Foundation and local schools.
A fairly flat, out-and-back 5K course begins in downtown Excelsior Springs at the Hall of Waters Historic District sign at the beginning of S. Thompson Avenue (near the Chamber of Commerce office). The course runs in front of the historic Hall of Waters before connecting with the paved trail through scenic Fishing River Linear Park. While running on this trail, participants will also pass by the Superior Well and Pagoda, the last remaining original mineral water spring pagoda in town.
The event also includes a stroller- and wagon-friendly two-mile walk and a 1-mile kids fun run (for kids 10 and under).
A special rate of $10 applies to all students (use the coupon code “STUDENT”).
Not only do registration fees benefit the Educational Foundation, you can support the school of your choice by designating $5 of your registration fee toward the activities fund of any local school. This could be a great fundraiser for clubs and organizations, and a great way for students to show their school spirit.
Every participant will receive a sleeveless, moisture-wicking race shirt in separate men’s and women’s styles (in Tigers black and gold, of course!). First-place overall finishers in both the men’s and women’s divisions will win a pair of running shoes from The Running Well Store. First-place finishers in each age group will receive a medal.
After the race, you can enjoy the rest of the festival located near the start/finish line. Celebrating its 35th year, the Chamber’s Annual Waterfest celebrates the city’s mineral water heritage. This three-day event features arts, crafts, live entertainment, and water games for the kids, classic car-hot rod and truck show, parade and much more. The EX-Factor singing competition will return, as well as headliner bands.
The Educational Foundation funds educational activities not ordinarily funded by the Excelsior Springs School District that benefit students, staff and patrons. The Foundation seeks to enhance educational opportunities and excellence in the schools through development of incentives, awards, grants, and scholarships.
We’re especially thankful for the support of Anytime Fitness, our Diamond Sponsor for this event. The Running Well Store is our Benefactor Sponsor. Sponsors also include The Hog 107.2 FM Radio, Daylight Donuts and iXL Elite Hydration.
